The Practice
We’re excited to be working towards adding a second practice to the Skye Medical family.
The clinic in Canning Vale is anticipated to open on 8th April 2024.
We value healthcare as a precious commodity and believe that the best health outcomes are achieved by listening to our patients.

With our teaching ethos we promote education for the doctors and staff who work here and for our patients to increase their understanding of their and their family’s health.
Our mission is to provide the highest standard of patient care whilst incorporating a holistic approach toward diagnosis and management of illness.
We are committed to promoting health, wellbeing and disease prevention to all patients. We do not discriminate in the provision of excellent care and aim to treat all patients with dignity and respect.
Skye Medical founder, Dr MacKinnon has always had a strong commitment to passing on his knowledge to the next wave of health professionals.
Dr MacKinnon is a clinical mentor at University of Western Australia and Notre Dame and the acting Dean of General Practice at Curtin University and as such we regularly host medical students at the clinic.
We have been eager to welcome likeminded GPs and nurses to the clinic who have the same teaching ethos.
Whilst we are very grateful to patients who are happy to have students observe their consultations, your consultations are private and we are not offended by patients refusing to be observed.
The practice also trains GP registrars.
GP registrars are fully qualified doctors who are committed to the speciality of General Practice and are training for their specialist exams under the guidance of the GP specialist within the practice.
The practice is in the building formerly know as ‘The Old Rectory’ which was built c.1909/1910 and housed the vicar for the neighbouring church.
Lewis and Stephanie MacKinnon bought the property in May 2016 and opened it as a medical centre on Monday 12th September 2016.
The property was extended in 2018 – groundworks began in November 2017 and the modern extension and fit out was completed at the end of March 2018.
Trading moved to the new part of the building in April 2018 while the old building was refitted and ‘joined’ to the new part. The final refit was completed at the end of June 2018.
The building is heritage listed and can be found on the local heritage survey
We don’t go to work to receive awards – but it’s nice to have recognition when it’s deserved.
The practice and the team have been fortunate to receive some awards in the time it’s been open.
